The Oriental Film Festival Wayanad (OFFW) is the first and only Film Festival of its kind in Wayanad, a remote district in Kerala. Ever since its creation in 2016 under auspicious of Media Department of Oriental Group of Educational Institution, OFFW is determined to cultivate the innovative ideas of short film making and to provide talented film makers wider attention and space. Encouraging the local talents and first time film makers, we aim’s at introducing a new visual media culture among movie critics, aspirants and lovers. Our founding purpose is to raise the profile of film making and thus boosting the cultural enrichment as film festivals are a vital link in the chain of global film culture.

The Media departments of OGEI, BA MCJ, BMMC, BVC jointly conducted Oriental International Film Festival, OIFFw in association with Kerala Chalachithra Academy on April 8,9 and 10 April, 2016 at Vythiri Village Resort. 22 classic movies and 60 short films were screened in the festival. Exhibition on 100 years of Indian Cinema by Kerala Chalachithra Academy was also held in the event.

The Hospitality Club of OGEI organized a BLOOD DONATION CAMP in association with the Bathery Blood bank, wherein 75 students whole-heartedly volunteered to make it a big success on the 16th of February 2016, the club Dr. Suraj VV and his team of paramedics from the Taluk Hospital at Sulthan Bathery, headed the camp.

Oriental Students Sets World Record

Oriental students set the World Record by making the “Longest Puttu” in the world (18.2 feet)

Twelve final year students of Oriental School of Hotel Management, set the World Record by making the “Longest Puttu” in the world (18.2 feet). The event was held on March 16th, 2015 at 3.00 pm in the Campus of the Institution. The “Longest Puttu” was made as per the guidelines and specifications of The Guinness World Records – the premier and the recognized authority on record breaking achievements across the world, and based at the United Kingdom. Students took One hour fifteen minutes to make this world record. They used 20 KG Ground Flour, 4 KG Grated Coconut, 15 Liters of Water and Salt to taste. The Longest Puttu Weighted 31.87 Kilo Grams which is 5.45 Meters surpassing the world record of 5 meters.

The twelve final year students who etched their names in the World Record attempt are Ms.Syama.M, Ms.Kavya Varghese, Mr.Akhil.B, Mr. Sivajith. S, Mr.Akshay Jain, Mr. Nithin George, Mr.Yadav Gurunathan , Mr. Jobu Ebin, Mr. Ebin Albert, Mr. Umesh.R.Nair, Mr. Jishnu.P.R and Mr.Mohammed Saif, all final year Hospitality Management students.

Earlier in 2006, the students of this Institution made Ten feet long Puttu by using ten coconuts and Twenty six kilogrammes of powdered rice in a specially designed 12 foot long aluminum mould which took one-and-a-half hours to be cooked. (Refer: Wikipedia- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puttu).

The World Record attempt by the Students of the Institution has surpassed their own previous record and will be appropriately certified and documented by the Guinness World Records. All the documents, and supporting evidences have been sent to the Guinness World Records for appropriate verification and certification. The World record attempt by the students has made the Institution unique in practise and approach, and will usher in a trend which encompasses Innovation, risk-taking, harnessing entrepreneurship skills, diversity and experimentation in the arena of Hospitality Management Education.

Studentsof ORIENTAL COLLEGE OF HOTEL MANAGEMENT & CULINARY ARTS would be taking few initiatives to preserve and promote TRIBAL CUSINES part of RESPONSIBLE TOURISM as mentioned below.

01) CAPACITY BUILDING AMOUNG YOUNG CULINARY STUDENTS ON TRIBAL CUISINE.

02) CONDUCTING SEMINARS & FOOD FESTIVALS ON TRIBAL CUISINE.

03) CUISINE AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMME.

With relation to this students of ORIENTAL COLLEGE OF HOTEL MANAGMENT AND CULINARY ARTS ,Vythiri have conducted an event titled :

“WOODLAND FEAST – KNOW THE PEOPLE , KNOW THE LIFE”

on 31st JANUARY 12:30 pm at AMBA, SUGANTHAGIRI,WAYANAD, which is a cuisine and cultural exchange program , where the students demonstrated live
preparation of food for the dwellers of the AMBA colony and in turn , the dwellers of the colony showcased to the students the different delicacies
prepared at their homes. It was conducted in the school located in the colony. Around four hundred gathered including students of the GLP SCHOOL AMBA its
teachers and Principal, Students of ORIENTAL COLLEGE OF HOTEL MANAGEMENT AND CULINARY ARTS, VYTHIRI with faculty members, Principal and
members of the local community.

This program is part of a new initiative to preserve and promote TRIBAL CUISINE as part of their contribution towards RESPONSIBLE TOURISM

The annual Cultural Fest, Talentsia 2014 was conducted on 12th and 13th of March 2014, organized by Sanskriti, the Cultural Forum of Oriental Group of Educational Institutions.

The cultural festival witnessed an intense battle between four houses with students from different OGEI campuses fighting hard to win each event.

The Hilton house won the overall championship trophy.

BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN & CANCER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Oriental School of Hotel Management, Lakkidi, one of the best and largest hotel management colleges in India, conducted a blood donation camp and cancer awareness programme on the World Cancer Day on February 4.

The programme was conducted by the college’s Hospitality Club in a bid to raise the awareness and education about the killer disease, which is the single biggest cause of mortality worldwide, killing about 8.2 million people around the world. World Cancer report 2014 states that by 2025, almost 80 per cent of the increase in the number of cancer deaths will occur in less developed countries. Annually, 500,000 people die of cancer in India and World Health Organisation said this number is expected to rise to 700,000 by 2015.

The day’s objective is to save and prevent deaths by educating communities and encourage people to take responsibility for their health.

Dr. Suraj VV and his team of paramedics from the Taluk Hospital at Sulthan Bathery, headed the camp, in which more than sixty students participated.

As a part of the programme, a seminar on cancer awareness was conducted on February 5 in the college auditorium headed by Dr. Vipin B Nair, Secretary, IMA Kalpetta.

The programme also included a poster-designing competition and cancer awareness presentations by the college students on the killer disease.
